buy a scsi external zip drive and a internal to 50 centronics external adapter and fit it to the back of the emax then you can format it to 20mb

download the operating system and put it on floppy the programs for this is in the files section then you can format the scsi drive make shure that it is set to scsi id 0 then it will boot from this drive

You can't set an external zip to 0, only id's 5 or 6. However you could buy and internal scsi zip + external enclosure and set that to 0. If your floppy drive is not working this wont do you any good since you wont be able to boot the floppy to format the zip.

Your best bet is to get the floppy drive working than investage booting from a scsi drive, either the internal drive or the aformentioned zip.

This seems like the best thing to do. I would ask Route 66 if they have a return policy in the event you replace the drive and it still doesn't work.

you will need to make a slot for the connector in the bottom of the
back panel and also if you want it to boot from a zip100 drive then
you will have to get an internal zip drive and put it in a housing
because you can only set these drives to scsi id 0

the external zip drives only id at 5 and six and you need it to work
at id 0 for it to boot the os

i noticed that the machine is broken and does not get past the
diagnostic screen which led,s stay on this will tell you what is wrong
with the machine

also check the ribbon cable between the motherboard and analog board
i have had people disconnect it to see if they can fix there machine
then to put the cable in backwards which makes it the wrong polarity
and it wont boot and always gets stuck on the diagnostics.

i have fixed many a sampler and synth this way because people have put
the cables back wrong asr10 and eps16+ blows fuses and the machine
then dont work then they think is broken even more.

the blue or red line on the ribbon cable denotes pin 1 there should be
a 1 on the circuit board were pin one is simple line up the coloured
line on the ribbon cable to this printed pin 1 and you will always
have correct polarity this is the same for all electronics ribbon
cables as this is the standard followed by all manufacturers.

you can boot the emax with out the floppy you need to put a jumper on
one set of pins this information is on this list then you will have to
get an image of a formatted with os for the emax zip disk from some
one on this site.

i still use the floppy for the os and only use the zip drive for
samples and sound banks

Floppy works fine--plays sounds and formats just fine
One thing I would like to find out is how to disable Hard Drive from
menu
When I go to master or preset management and try to save--the os still
thinks the HD is present and prompts me for a bank

thanks Dave

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
