Help My Emax won´t power on anymore...

2008-10-04 by marc

I was leaving my Emax 1 HD SE out of my rack for a few days (was getting ready to get a card
reader installed) i tried power it on today and...nothing...
I get a buzzing sound which is probably coming from the power supply but nothing more....
I am guessing that the power supply is broken. Does anybody know if i can fit in an old PC
power supply ? where could i get a new one ?

thanks

Marc

Marc, try re-seating all cables and chip-boards first. Contact cleaner as
necessary. I have often had the same issue after moving a unit or leaving it
untouched for long periods. Good luck!

Indeed, I had the same problem with my Emax Plus Rack.
After opening/closing the unit it wouldn't boot anymore, just a noise
from the PSU. So I opened it again, just pushed all components on the
boards and checked the cables, and the unit worked perfect again !
(I adopted this "remedy technique" from the Emulator II, and it seems
to be a good cure for the Emax as well :-)

i disconnected all the cables and checked the fuse on the PSU (looks ok), No luck so far.
The Emax still makes the buzzing sound when i want to power it on and nothing happens.
Since it is not possible to use an PC psu, does the EMAX2 PSU fit ?
Jammie...in case i won´t be able to find a replacement, could i send you the PSU for fixing
?

Cheers

sorry for the constant questions, but are there simple instructions or guides for removing the power supply? is it just a matter of unscrewing or will there be soldering involved? i've never opened my emax up before, and i have no clue what i'm supposed to even send you. Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!

(btw i have a rack and a keyboard, both power supplies are out)

Re: Help My Emax won´t power on anymore...

2008-12-31 by alancurrall

Paul,
I'm an absolute amateur when it comes to electronics. However, with
the help and guidance of this user group, I did manage replace the
burnt out power supply with a new one and it wasn't rocket science!

If you follow the thread from message #4003 you should get the whole
procedure.

Where I came unstuck was in replacing my LCD, which is why I need to
replace the button panel.

Good luck,
Alan

Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!
