Q: will an Emax II keyboard floppy drive work in an Emax II rack?

Q: will an Emax II keyboard floppy drive work in an Emax II rack?

2008-12-19 by bty54193247

Hello all,

Well, I'm a bit confused....I've just received an Emax II rack, which has a broken floppy drive,
(Sony MPF420-1). The drive powers up, but doesn't load a disc, so I've replaced the broken
drive with a working drive from an Emax II keyboard, (TEAC FD-235HF)......the only problem
is....the light on the replacement drive doesn't come on at all, and the Emax II rack isn't
seeing the drive.
The drive from the keyboard is full height, and is in full working order when connected to my
Emax II keyboard.
The jumpers look different.....could it be a jumper problem?
I would be very grateful for any advice.
Happy Holidays to you all!!!

All the best

Dave

Ya the floppy drive will work from the rack to the keyboard, but that teac drive you have could be buggy. Glad to hear you got a working drive, let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.

Hello Rich,

Many thanks indeed for all of your help. As you said Teac drive do tend to be fussy!!
The only thing I have to do now is try and get an output from my Emax II!!
For some reason I'm not getting any audio output.
I've tried the phones, and the mono mix sockets, but I'm not getting any sound. The Emax
has been in transit, and the audio output was working before it was shipped.
I've checked all of the connections, ie: ribbon cables, etc, but no joy.
The strange thing is, i get an audible pop when I insert, or remove the jack plug into the
sockets, so I know the output board is active, which is a good sign.
Is there anything else I can try?
I need to get the rack working asap, as I've got a show after the holidays, and my Emax II
keyboard's LCD is still not working, despite swapping out the LCD........this has not been a
good week in Emax land!!
Happy holidays to you Rich,

Regards & best wishes

Dave

well it sounds like the inverter is bad in the display and the sound not working....hummmmmmm could be that even though you have the vol slider all the way up, it is reading all the way down due to a failed slider pot. There is a calbration that you can do that tests all that stuff...some one on the group maybe able to tell you how to get to it faster.
