Emax

Hello all,

I've noticed that a few people are using a Syquest EZ135 external drive, but I can't get mine 
to work.
My Emax II keyboard can see the drive, but warns: 'Not an Emax II drive'.........do I have to do 
anything in the keyboards settings to get the Emax II to see my drive?
I've set the SCSI ID to 4, so there shouldn't be a conflict with other drives, etc.
Any ideas......I know John is using an EZ135 without issue.

Well, Emax obviously recognizes EZ-Drive, the message it shows is most
likely related to the media(disk) itself, which has some foreign data
on it I guess (?). You need to format the EZ-disk with the Emax, did
you do that ? Problem may be solved then.
I also had an Emax II working with EZ-drive, no problem.

Your a star!!! I was confused by the message, as I thought the message referred to the 
drive itself rather than the disc I was using.
Thanks to your advice I've now managed to format the disk, and start loading my sample 
banks on there.....many thanks indeed!!!

My SCSI Chain is Emax II (rack) > EZ-135 > EZ Flyer > Esi-32. The only 
issues I face are I have to boot in a specific order (EZ135, Emax II, 
EZFlyer, ESi-32).

The great thing about my chain is I can access both the EZ-135 with Emax 
II formatted cartridges and the EZFlyer with ESI-32 formatted cartridges 
through my ESI-32 so I can directly import my EMax II stuff into the 
ESI-32 if I am having memory or polyphony issues with the Emax II. At 
this point my Emax II is basically for drums and analogue FX stuff that 
sound a lot better through the Emax II and having the three sets of 
subouts in the Emax II makes isolating drum sounds way easier.

It was already mentioned that you'll not be able to update your RAM.
Hey you mention your Emax II has 1 MB, that's the earliest unit
shipped, therefore you may check if you have a Stereo-model there, as
these first units - and a amount of following 2 MB models - were
indeed Mono, i.e. they could NOT SAMPLE, only playback in stereo (but
there was a upgrade kit for sale). Go into sampling menu and see if
you have there two lines (for L + R) as VU-Meter, then it's a stereo
model, mono models have only one big line as VU, logically.
Alternatively (if I remember correctly, as I sold my Emax II) the
stereo model said something like 'calibrating' after I hit the SAMPLE
button. If so you may sell yours and look for a stereo-model with more
RAM. This just in addition.
