the big restauration

2009-01-28 by calippolangnese

Hi my name is johannes, I bought my emax 1994 secondhand and used eversince a lot.
I am very happy that i found this board! I hope to be able to benefit from your wisdom.
Last month my psu failed, I learned from the board how to replace the old one with an atx
standard device, that encouraged me a lot! Now i realy want the bring my emax I (keyboad)
back to full funktionality! I want to eplace the faded display and i also want to do something
with the buttons... since enter and up and down buttons are pretty num.
My data slider also is f...t up to...
I read the post how to fix the buttons... ok
but what about the sliders? has anyone tried to fix these?

I wonderd if its possible to replace the data slider with a digital rotary dial?

all the best from berlin...

ps
I will tkae pictures from my restauration project and post them here.

but you can fit them with led back lights of various colours

the sliders can be replaced with the same ristance and size equivelents

the push buttons have to be de-soldered so you can move the prongs of
the grey button from the the bottom of the holder once removed

you can clean the contacts with rubbing alcohol

there is no replacement push buttons other than scavenging from
damaged keyboards and racks

the power supply i am doing a new better switching psu design
 and the prototype works great

i am just getting costing for a batch of pcb,s keep you posted

Buy the backlight from eBay and send the keyboard to a repair shop, they will have it ready in
a few days with all the buttons and sliders working as well. If you try to do it yourself you will
end up at the repair shop any way. Trust me.

Jammie-

On the PSU, are you incorporating any cooling so that the heat from PS would
be exhausted outside the keyboard or rack?

Just curious.

Ted

the transformer is an toroidal and are quieter and more robust the
casing is very large in the emax 1 and the are loads of air vents

i can incorporate cooling but this will ad noise which we dont want
with audio gear

i have incorporated spike surge suppressors and noise from mains
voltage also earth hum removal suppressors and inrush current
limiters for the power switching
