Emax HD SE startup problem

Emax HD SE startup problem

2009-05-24 by perbroberg

Hi

I'm Per and new on this list and also a newcomer when it comes to Emax. I've had different samplers since I bought an Akai X7000 back when it was new and stopped upgrading when I bought an ESi32 - ehm,,,14 years ago. So it's been a while since I got a "new" sampler.

Anyway - I got a E-mu Emax HD SE for free but it doesn't work. But I really would like to get it started!

When I press power all the leds flash and then the two leds for play and stop turns on. According to the servicemanual that would suggest something wrong with the E-chip - or am I not reading it correctly??? Can someone please help me or tell me it's dead or so...

Reg

What is it worth as spares? I think everything else works, backlight, psu and ssm-chips. Or can you fix a echip?

all the other parts are good for spares as the filter chips are rare and most other parts you can get over the counter at electronic stores or equivalent upgrade components the mother board will be of use as will the analog board and the display panel also the switches are of use as they dont make them any more

i would like to buy it for the community for spare parts send me a private message of topic as we dont want to clog the forum with the negotiation

I wouldn't assume the Echip is dead.

I think that assumption has been made WAY too many times resulting in
scrapped Emaxes.

But what is needed to test is a working Emax unit, and move the echip
to the working unit to test it.
Also, that would be true of the MPU and other hard to find IC's- test
one chip at a time in a working unit.

I thought I had a dead rack unit, but found the Echip wasn't bad. It
was one of the other replaceable supporting chips.
But it gave me the readout of a dead Echip....

Just my 2 cents for what it is worth.

Regards,
Ted

Thanx for the tip. Will try that before declaring it dead.

on my Emax -keyboard version.
Periodically I have to press all the IC chips down into their sockets.
as I remember it these two leds have been lit on my emax too.
