emax and sequencers

2002-05-18 by unluckybob

I just bought a sequencer (roland mc-500) to go with my emax, but it
would seem that they don't like talking to each other. When I bought
my emax, I didn't get a manual, so there might be some super easy way
to switch it to sequencer, and I dont know it. So if you do, then
please let me know. I'm also pursuing the problem from the sequencer
side in case that is the problem. Thanks for your help.

I'd start by downloading the manual from http://www.emulatorarchive.com. If you plan on
using it as a mullti-timbral sound source you'll find that it's not that easy or fun to work
with that way (IMHO).

I downloaded the manual (thanks for the address) and in the supermode
section, it says how to download sequences from the sequencer, but
not how to send sounds to the sequencer from the sampler. I think
that I am planning on using the emax as a multi-timbral sound source
(in your words). You will have to forgive me. I am an old style
musician, and I am rather new to midi and digital music in general,
but I am not afraid of complexity. I really like the sounds and the
flexibility of the emax, and I want to use it with my sequencer.

Re: [emax] Re: emax and sequencers

You won't be sending any actual sounds to the MC-500. The MC-500 records the
incoming MIDI data like note on/off, velocity, wheel movements. To get started you
should be first try to hook the MIDI IN and Out to the respective jacks on the MC-500.
Remember the OUT of the Emax goes to the IN of the MC-500. Also you will want to go
into Master 9 - 1 (or is it 0?) where you can set the MIDI channel the Emax will send and
receive on. MAke sure you set the MC-500 to transmit the MIDI data you record back on
the same channel. From there try to start recording what you play, avoid using
Supermode until after you get the basics down with that set-up.

Re: emax and sequencers

Thanks for the advice, but there seems to be one problem. My emax
(which is an emax 1) doesn't have a master 9 selection at all. I
searched around, and the only thing that I could find that was
anything like what you said was the MIDI overflow control. Perhaps
the emax 2 has a master 9 function? Thanks again for your help, and
if you can think of anything elase, then please let me know.

Re: [emax] Re: emax and sequencers

Been so long since I've used an Emax. I think it actually might be Master 0 on the Emax.
It's Master | Special | MIDI Master as I recall it.
