How to possibly offend ebay users asking way to much

How to possibly offend ebay users asking way to much

2010-01-22 by MatthewF

Just read a listing on ebay for an Emax II
its a 2212 which have been after.
the user wants $699 and $60 shipping.

Upon checking over the ad closer they are in Chicago.
I sent them a message informing them that the keyboard
has a street price of about $100-$200 now.
and Made an offer to pick it up locally if he doenst sell it
at his price. I offered him $125 and agreed to pick it up locally.
I think its just a matter of time before one of these shows up
in my area at a realistic price.
I dont expect that the seller will accept my offer though.

Any opinions on the value of this model currently?
I really cant see spending even $200 to get another one of these
given all the less than ideal aspects associated.
The noise, the failing disk drives failing lcds
non standard sampling rate...

I have a sentimental interest in the emax II
My musical need for it doenst go too deep.

Matt

If you cant see yourself spending a lousy
200$ on an Emax II, you dont deserve one.
Thats the cheapest thing I have ever heard
for a long time. Sorry for being rude.

I am not sure. I paid $200 for my Emax 1. I thought that was a good deal. Maybe I was wrong. I did the board though.

hmmm, so by saying sorry that makes your rudeness excusable?

I have seen E-maxII on ebay for 799 I got mine for 150 did not have an os or any font disk's but found them on line and it work's great but still learning about scsi cd drive's computer interface and external samplers this group has been great help in that ty all mark

Re: [emax] Re: How to possibly offend ebay users asking way to much

ive seen them go for between 150 and 300 in uk

it all depends how much you want one. you'll probably find one for a more
realistic price
on craiglist.

i paid $45 for my Emax rack (needed a new floppy drive)... there's no set
rule, it's all about how badly someone else wants one and what they're
willing to pay. as time marches on you're bound to see more of these go for
higher prices... it will just take a little luck to find a good deal... or
get a fixer upper.

Well, I paid $300.00 for my Emax II Mod.2212 and a IOMEGA Zip disk with about 200 sounds (called "Universe of Sounds" collection), the 3½ floppy drive is damaged (I use an external Zip Drive.
I think is a fair price and I would pay $350.00 or $400.00 for an EMAX II TURBO Mod. 2205 (With internal Hard Drive).

I picked up locally, but shipping price could be $30-$45 (maybe $50 dlls.) a fair shipping price.

Andres.

well said. That is my boat. I am wanting an emax2 for various reasons
but waiting for the reasonable deal.
and I don't want a rack.

When I have like $300 I would pay that.
Saying 150-200 seems a little low.
But 700 seems high...
So I am waiting.....

I just sold my 100% rebuilt Emax 1(thank you Ted for the upgrade kit, you rock!) for $600, had 30+ watchers in two days and was gone soon after that, I also bought a turbo 2 last year on Craigslist (needed a drive) for $20.00. I was so elated that I gave my friend a spare 2122 as a Christmas gift. but the 30+ watchers so fast is telling me there is a growing demand ...

I'm in Hawaii so, those are pretty much impossible to get here

But for $600, you sold me a EMAX SE with cap replacements, lcd replacement, 170 emax floppies, 5 syquest discs and a syquest drive, scsi cable and manuals. Thats a deal for me, its hard to get deals on stuff like that here. E-mu gear is never on craigslist here, and we only have one used music gear store on oahu, and I havent seen any ensoniq or e-mu gear there ever.

I bought a emax keyboard a couple months ago for $300 on ebay and the guy never sent it to me. interest free loan I guess. happens to me alot. that guy selling the EMU EIIIXS on ebay right now...he refused to send it to me when i won it for $220. he told me it was broken, after he tried asking like $150 for shipping. Then as soon as it cleared the 30 days period he listed it again. magically its fixed now..."a loose connector" apparently. yeah, more like someone doesnt understand the concept of setting a reserve price. I bought my perfect emax2 keyboard for $295.

That's cool I'm coming from the perspective of someone
who has a sentimental interest in this series but also
A knowledge from being an ex keyboard salesmen that the true
worth of these continues to go down as the years pass.
My intention is after getting my next one is to install my own
hard drive. Load up some of the samples that I do have on another external hard drive I have here. And convert those samples to wav format
so I can use those sounds eventually if i ever do get into a current
sampler.
At that point id like to keep it around to monkey around with
I just love the menu being printed on the keyboard case.
haha Im so into stuff like that.

btw I realize you are referring to a more deluxe version Emax II
than what im going after..

If you cant see yourself spending a lousy
200$ on an Emax II, you dont deserve one.
Thats the cheapest thing I have ever heard
for a long time. Sorry for being rude.

I got my Emax II with 4MB at $175 + $500 to ship to Venezuela. I install it a new back light at some $40 I believ and the 1GB internal CF scsi card to make it Turbo at some $300 with shipping to Venezuela.

So the thing is about $1000. I haven't use it much, barely actually. In one year it have been working for no more than 6 hours at the most. But I love it, is my Depeche Mode chilhood dream come true.

I hope I can play in a band contest sometime this year just for fun.

I would like to have an Emulator III and the overrated Oberheim Matrix 12 and make some trance music with it.

Wow.

My Emax II cost less than what we paid to go and see Depeche Mode last May . . .

why would you say the matrix 12 be over rated its a great synth the first to be a modular concept in a portable synth theres no synth like it with true analog filters and 15 diferent topologies filter styles and the modulation matrix is great you can modulate anytrhing to modulate any other modulator no synth today has the complex modulation of the matrix12

but my favourite synth of all of them is my upgraded korg dss1 which kicks all there asses as its a sampler and synth and 16 oscilator unison sync fat

its just a pity we could not get the code we could do so much more for the emaxes

The Matrix 12 is NOT overrated! I have played one extensively and it is actually usually underrated and not as expensive as many less featured analog polysynths.

If you want trance, get an old virus or some plug ins and you should be good to go.

Time to end this thread and move on.

I've been disappointed in how a group that I've been a part of for 14 or
15 years (back when we were using Unix newsgroups to communicate) and
has firmly stood for helping one another started edging towards insults.
The reality is whether you pay a thousand dollars or nothing everyone
has the right to pay what they feel an Emax is worth to them, and on the
same token ask for whatever price they feel they should get.
Intentionally being offensive, abusive, or threatening in anyway is not
something I will tolerate through the group. There are so many factors
that go into decisions like asking/offering prices and to be honest it's
is a private matter between sellers and buyers.

Please keep in mind that supportive discussion is what we are about. We
are a group of diverse people in every way imaginable and posts should
reflect that. Just because you personally feel a price, methodology,
music style, other synth etc. isn't up to your criteria, you in no way
have the right to use this group to put other people down because they
disagree.

Thanks!

I'm totally agree with that!,
I'm a new user of this group since I own my Emax II (6 months ago), and is clear that there are a lot of constructive comments and threads and is not a bad thing to share what the people think about of a keyboard, music style, even share the experience of how use this machines or how much people had pay to get one, etc.

But the bad thing is the way that some people do it, using insults and not concentrating on an objective discussion that allows us to all to obtain something useful in this respect.

Thanks!!
