Emax audio thru?

Emax audio thru?

2011-12-30 by jdchevallier

Still trying to get my emax to sample!

I'd been having problems with the machine not getting an input signal (or a very weak one.) Before shipping it off for repair I pulled each of the chips inside, dusted the board and reseated them. Not too technical, but I now have a visible signal when sampling...it seems to have worked.

When sampling I can however only see the signal in the vu mode...I can't heard anything. Should I be able to hear the audio passing from my turntable, through the emax, prior to sampling? I can only hear the signal after I've sampled, which obviously makes picking an exact spot on the record to sample a bit tricky!

Not sure if there is a setting I've disabled, if this is yet another problem with my board, or something else.

Any insight, as always, is appreciated greatly.

Joel

Off the top of my head, I don't think the Emax has 'audio monitor' when
sampling. You'll need to monitor separately AFAIAA. Did you check the
manual? Just rewiring the studio ATM so can't check with mine right now
- up to my eyeballs in bantam patchbays!

Congrats on getting the audio in working though!

I think there is no monitoring on an emax, unless I don't know the setting. I generally get around this by recording my sample in soundforge and then playing it back to the emax so I can trim it to exactly what I want.

I haven't had my Emax 2 for long, but when I was sampling my CZ with it,
what ever was coming in the Emax was getting out by it's output. I could be
different with an Emax 1.

You are putting this through a phono pre-amp first, right?
because otherwise the turntable signal output (unless it is a newer table
with a line level out) would be way too low...

The Emax I definitely does not monitor sample input. It states this clearly in the manual. Use an fx send bus on your mixer or something else to monitor the signal when sampling.

FYI,
