Yes- you can physically remove it. Most are replacing HD with flash media drive... You need to use the non-HD version of the operating system.

You don't have to switch the OS, just boot from a floppy disk and the Emax will ignore the HD unless you tell it to look for it. I highly recommend getting a compact flash drive in there instead of the HD, the benefit of running the emax from the HD or a CF card as HD is that all the processes are much faster than when it has to read the OS from the floppy before every action. Floppy means slooooow. To: emax@yahoogroups.com

If you use a HD version of the OS, but don't have a HD, you will get an error when trying to save anything, as it looks for the disk then times out. The SCSI CF route is by far the best. Apart from the speed advantage, using a CF card with the EMXP software means you can transfer files to and from the sampler, build presets, back up etc.

if yours is hd then a scsi cf drive $50 is way cheaper than a hxc floppy emulator and scsi is fast a few seconds to load a bank $10 for slim floppy and $17 for slim floppy convertor its a 109 euro,s for the new 3.5 version of the hxc floppy emulator but as of yet it has not been released

the problems people were having was due to a cupupted version of the se hd os but there is not that problem any longer due to the fact that i reloaded the working versions to the files section they come under jammie.emma its an easy process and does not take long todo there are 2 ways of fitting the cf drives there the keyboard way and the rack way as the bracket systems are different on both
