Front panel re-print

Front panel re-print

2012-02-26 by soundsubs

((New file in files section named "Emax Plus Version 1.0.RTF"))
I have a Baldwin/Emax and i'd like to get a top/front panel printed so that i can stick it on there and tell what each button does. For those who arent familiar, the Baldwins came with a removeable screen printing that if removed did not show functions. In the past, i have simply printed something on my computer and taped it on.
now i'd like to put something more permanent on it. At Kinkos, they offer vinyl sticker printing, so i could simply cut it to size.

I believe i have transposed button by button each of the features in the final software version of emax, but i dont have photoshop or any graphics sofware that preserves the font detail for printing. I have also tried to mimic the slanted angle at which the text should be printed.
Ideally, the font would be white, and the background would be black. I am undecided as to whether or not to put the dividing lines on there to exactly match factory emax's.

Can anyone help with photoshop or make this into a printable PDF somehow?

Are you saying you don't have the original?

I have an original, but when I was looking into this a couple years ago, it was cost prohibitive to make them.

according to kinko's, printing this will be about $12. but i have to get it into a digital format that can print, and have the layout done.

I can, Graphic designer by trade. If someone can scan the original or take a picture along with a ruler so I know the dimensions or can send me the dimensions shouldn't be a problem and can upload it to the files section once it's done.

>>>Excellent, thanks!
if you want to use all of the available space it measures 17" by 7.25"
the angle is tough to tell. i wouldnt mind if the text followed the angle like on the original. i think there should be some blank space to the right of the text, maybe 4 inches?

the text for the PLUS OS is in my file in the files section.

i THINK the best way to lay it out is to copy the emax method, which is to spread the buttons' definitions along the vertical axis. button 1-6 read left to right. the separations could be drawn by dividing lines starting at the hardware button and connecting to the button definitions on the right.

I just went into Kinko's with my original.
It's $30 to have this made into a vinyl sticker.
A bit more than the $12 that was suggested.

I gave them the go ahead to make me a sticker.
They said they would give me the scan file when done.

If anyone wants to donate to the cause you can paypal me a couple bucks :-)
djtbs1@...

Anyone who donates I will send the file.

If I get more than $10 donations I will post it for all on the group.
That way anyone who doesn't have one at all will be able to make one.

Thanks,
Ted

I got the sticker. I got the file.
The sticker's white lettering is brighter than the original.
I am liking it!

I am going to affix this to my Baldwin, as the original slides around.

caveats:
Have to cut out the holes for the buttons (easy)
Have to cut out little holes for LED's to show through.
But that shouldn't be too hard :-)

Will see if I can do some measurements to facilitate the LED placement holes for others.

Thanks,
Ted

Hey Ted---
does your sticker reprint include all the functions of the last plus 1.0 OS?

Did you redo the font or just scan it in and print it?

I dunno if it has 1.0 Plus OS functions- I never looked at it for that....
as far as I know the only thing PLUS OS bought was the ability to use the
Transpose key to choose the SCSI ID.
But if the SE functions are on it or not, I can double check that.

I had Kinko's scan in the original and had them print me a sticker and give
me the file.
The lettering of the sticker is much brighter than the original.
I have not (as yet) determined the cut-out holes for the LED's but I plan
to do that by end of the weekend if not sooner (other projects permitting).

Thanks,
Ted

Re: Front panel re-print

The SE functions are on this panel print.... confirmed the PLUS 1.0 OS only added the feature of "TRANSPOSE" for SCSI ID change.
This isn't on the print, but that doesn't surprise me- it is 1 function for 1 button....

I figured out the LED hole spacings.
I even punched them through on the print (made a little tool).
What I found then was that it is difficult to cut the oval button holes.
In doing so, you run the risk of damaging the print or making it unsightly.

So what I did was cut at exactly the same angle as the print right at the edge of the button holes below Master.
The IKE says "Part 1, Part 2, etc" on the casing, where the print shows "Master, Sample, Digital Processing", etc.

I then lined up and stuck the sticker, masked off the keyboard keys, vents, buttons, etc- and to protect the print, applied a flat clearcoat spray.

Looks pretty good in my opinion.

Regards,
Ted

i wasnt sure that it had everything, but if it does, would you be willing to make one and sell it to me?
