Emax 1 HD SE repair and upgrade options

Emax 1 HD SE repair and upgrade options

2012-08-26 by spencerdcvancouver

I purchased an Emax 1 HD SE about 6 years ago and unfortunately it's been during in my parents' basement since pretty much then. This is partly because of me moving out and not being able to bring it with me and because the floppy drive failed about a month after I purchased it. Now I work at a popular Vancouver studio and I'm getting lots of production work. This has given me more cash flow to put into my gear, so now I want to get my Emax up and running so I can bring an interesting sound palette to my productions.

So here are my questions about my Emax:

1. I need to either buy a new floppy drive or replace it with something different? Maybe a CF reader or zip drive?

2. The LCD display has an intermittent problem where it decides to make the text go crazy with unreadable symbols. Does that mean it's going to fail and I need to switch it or is it because of something else like the PSU?

3. What can I expect cost wise to fix it and buy upgrades?

My Emax 1 HD SE has a Emax Analog PCB Version 3 PC326 Rev C and an Emax CPU PCB PC333 Rev A. Do I have any options our limitations sure to my models.

Thanks
Spencer

dont need the scsi conversion already has it

best thing would be a slim floppy converter and a pcd-50b cf drive

as for the lcd screen change it for an oled display the white on black looks great have fitted a few of these

and the invertor can be removed as the new display does not require it

refurb the psu or get a replacement from epr as they are reselling them again

and what it costs to refurb in parts and labour will be about the same cost as a new one

by doing this you bringing it up to spec and emxp is great for transfering sounds from pc to the cf cards and does sf2 conversion so small soundfonts can be converted

depends on where you live i could give you links but mine for the oled is
from rapid online which is uk based

the pcd-50b they are from amiga warehouse in usa

the jm215a adapters are only available from the usa ebay has them for sale

you will need to do the mods on this board to get it to work

ted has given you the link on how to do it

all materials for the slim floppy slim floppy adapter pcd-50b pcmcia to cf
adapter and cf cards and a oled display

will set you back about \ufffd100

but its well worth it as transforms the machine and being able to dump banks
to the emax via a pc is so quick

and loading from a bank of sounds from a cf only takes seconds and its quiet
