I used an ADAT for years with no problem. You should state the product you are complaining about. I've not heard anything bad about the AI3. Sometimes tape heads get worn out and ADATs are no exception, but those were quite an attractive option and are still in use today all over the place. Generalizing all of Alesis' products seem unfair. I don't like all MOTU products, but some are excellent. I just tried out the MOTU 828 which performs about 20% better than the VXPocket and works more reliably than the pocket. I'm tempted to go for it but want to put it against the Hammerfall PCMCIA...
