A workaround is the following: number all files in the order you want them (i.e. this involves changing the filename, which you don't want to do if the same samples are used someplace else as well). Then I could send you an applescript that converts numerals in filenames to midi notenames -- like 60 becomes C3. If in the EXS preferences you then have the option checked to "read root note from filename", the samples will end up where you want them. Somewhat involved, I know, but the best I can suggest. And if you're dealing with tons of files this method beats having to set the root note manually for each zone.
