Multi-Samples in EXS on MAC OSX...

Multi-Samples in EXS on MAC OSX...

2003-10-07 by rediculas30

Ok..I did read the FAQ, but it didn't fully answer my question. I
have seen a window
in the "Windows-XP" version (5.5.x), that gives you many options when
it
comes to
importing multi-samples in the "editor" (such as "add all" and what
file type even).
However, the Mac OS-X version of Logic does not seem to have this
window, and in
order to bring in
more than one sample, I end up clicking on each one. I can't even
select
all, make a selection box, nothing.
Then when they are in the "editor", [using the "Chromatic" option}
they lay out in no
particular order - not even the sequence that they were selected in.
In "Windows-XP"
version, it adds the samples in the order listed.
This is killing
me, and it's time consuming to boot! I greatly appreciate any tips,
or methods...thx.

Correct. Nothing you can do about it. Uhm, isn't there an 'add all'
button? I thnk I remeber there being one...

Again correct. A workaround is the following: number all files in
the order you want them (i.e. this involves changing the filename,
which you don't want to do if the same samples are used someplace
else as well). Then I could send you an applescript that converts
numerals in filenames to midi notenames -- like 60 becomes C3. If in
the EXS preferences you then have the option checked to "read root
note from filename", the samples will end up where you want them.
Somewhat involved, I know, but the best I can suggest. And if you're
dealing with tons of files this method beats having to set the root
note manually for each zone. Just let me know if you want me to send
you the script.

Nothing has ever beaten the Fairlight way of doing this, from mid
80s. Select a sample, hit root note and lower and upper notes, i.e. 3
midi notes, then a key command for next sample, which sounds, 3 midi
notes etc. About 2 secs per sample. Regards Brian

If you could send this applescript you are referring to, I would really like to try using it. Again,
thank you for your help, and making things a little smoother.
