I think you will find a lot of very happy pHATmatik Pro users here 
(myself included). It is a stand alone VST instrument. There is no 
reason/need to import the slices into EXS. I suppose if you wanted to 
grab a couple of single hits for future mapping/uses, you could. But 
pHATmatik works fine on it's own for slicing and playing back loops. It 
has it's own filters and LFO mappings and matrix modulation settings, etc.
