With regard to: >...... I turned off "one shot" and raised >the "release" parameter up so the sample would play out, put it >on "mono" but still new notes don't stop the previous one from >playing... What is "mono" supposed to mean???? What "mono" are you referring to? If you mean the mono/stereo choice of the Audio instrument itself, then certainly this won't make a difference as it refers only to the outputs. What you need to do is assign the Zones you want to control to a Group. Do this: Select your instrument in the EXS24 main window. Click the EDIT button (next to the instrument name). In this new Instrument Edit window go to the Group menu and choose <New Group>. If there are no existing groups, it will be Group #1 (you can re-name it too). Next to <Voices> (which probably says Max), select 1. (= one voice only) Now go to each Zone in your patch and in the <Group> field, select Group #1. You have now assigned all your zones (samples) to Group#1 which is only capable of playing 1 voice. Your samples will now cut off as you wanted. This is the classic "hi-hat" mode of drum machines - ie a closed hi-hat cuts off an open hi-hat and so on. You can use this principle to create monophonic (not to be confused with mono) basses, wind instruments, etc, that only play one note at a time. The whole one shot story you were talking about simply refers to the way each sample is played - once or looped or alternated etc. Hope this helps. Regards - Colin
