I just bought the Hitachi 7K60 which is a 60GB 7200RPM 2.5" drive that I tossed into an OWC firewire 400 case for my 12"Al. I haven't actually tried it bus-powered yet, but the OWC guys told me it would not run without external power. There are many other 2.5" drives that spin at 5400 and 4200 but more than likely your internal drive also spins at one of those rates (most likely 4200 which I think is what mine spins at) so while you should see some improvement (streaming samples off another drive should give you better performance) you won't see as much as getting a separate and faster drive. It's your call. I've always been a proponent of buying the drive I want and enclosure I want and putting them together and OWC has been good to me in the past.
