I'm sorry, I meant storage. Which is, in effect, long term memory
(cracks wry smile). Whatever the intent is, some will use it to
sample their synth's entire memory, with the intent of selling the
synth afterwards. I wouldn't sell my MOTIF, but my JV-1000 (and the
five patches I still like within it) is a definite candidate.

Its perfectly legal to sample every single sound in my synth. What's
illegal is distributing those samples, either commercially or for
free.

There was a detailed discussion over at kvr-vst.com regarding that
exact issue. Apparently, people were wondering about the legality of
Romplers like Atmosphere, which are based on samples of other sample-
based synths. Eric Persing of Spectrasonics, and formerly Roland,
said that sampling factory supplied patches or third party
commercial patches from a sample-based synth with the intent of
distribution is copyright infringement, and therefore illegal.
However, sampling one's original patches for distribution is
perfectly legal, and this is the ground upon which Atmosphere, and
others, stand.

I'll admit , there's plenty of grey area there, like issues
regarding sampling a non sample-based synth, etc... but in this
industry, the term personal use gives a lot of leeway.

Anyway, I'm first in line for AutoSampler, but if it could set loop
points, it would be a God send!!! Maybe Version 2?
