They don't take 45 seconds to load, it's taking that long to find the
samples.

If you move the sample files from where they originally were, then the
instruments will point to samples that don't exist. The EXS then goes
looking for them, and when it finds them it writes the new sample location
to the instrument you are trying to load.

(I'm sure this must be in the FAQ somewhere)

If you have a ton of instruments where the samples are in the wrong place,
use EXS manager or the "next instrument" trick to resolve your instruments.

Once your samples are in the correct place, they will load very quickly.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
