We're talking about the same thing. The range of the buffer settings are dictated by the Digidesign drivers, not by Logic. Core audio in OS X and Direct I/O in OS 9. Both the Direct I/O and Core Audio drivers don't allow the MBox to be set lower than 512. Wether it's a physical limitation of the actual hardware, or a limitation of how Digidesign wrote the drivers doesn't really matter. The result is the same.
