I've been getting a lot of freezing and crashing lately (OS9.2) and this explanation is fascinating. I tried your suggestion and, so far, no crashes. Do you mean that if you load a "RAM hog" application like Logic or Photoshop, then open a "low RAM" application, the larger application can't expand RAM further?
