Am I the only dude who has ever complained about this? Well, the point is that if you have a floating instrument window open, it is CONSTANTLY blocking other windows behind it. So, you have to close the window when you're done by aiming for its teeny weenie close button. You cannot use Command-W on a floating window. That's a pain. As a matter of fact, not only should the window not float, but it would be very convenient if you could link this window to whatever instrument you select via the Arrange window so the contents updates, automatically. As it is now, if you're going from your pizz strings patch to your arco strings, you have to double-click the arco strings entry in the track's mixer strip to bring up its interface -- and if you didn't close the pizz window beforehand, well now you have TWO floating windows clogging up the works! Very clumsy. Now, you can at least specify the position of the floating window and lock the screenset so that it opens in the same spot, but that doesn't solve the problem of its ever-present floatation. Emagic allows you to specify a floating or non-floating movie window. We need such an option for the instrument UI. I realize the fact that the instrument window floats because it is a plug-in, but surely there must be a way to change how plugins work. They literally feel "tacked on" because of this. I'd like to think that, given how much instrument and effect plugins are used these days, that it's time to revamp the interface... IMHO at least :) There are other big shortcomings with audio instrument UI besides this, but to me this is a biggie.
