I've got my libraries spread over two drives: a second internal SATA and an external FW800. So far I've been using libraries mostly on the SATA drive, but since this drive actually tests slower than the FW800 drive (surprising) I think I'll try moving everything to that drive. There have been claims on the VSL list that using multiple drives is ineffective with Logic Pro. >Did you test some different virtual memory settings yet? > >One thing seems to be for sure: LogicPro's audio performance is REALLY poor >(to even put it mildly, and it's NOT related to OSX but solely up to Emagic >to fix this as other apps don't perform even halfway as bad), so you may >better be off loading as much as possible into your RAM, rather than >streaming things (that's why I'd recommend to set the virtual memory thing >on the EXS as low as possible - try to set disk drive speed to "slow" and >harddisk recording activity to "extensive", no matter whether that's true or >not). >Wouldn't happen to know if EXS performance is affected by the generally >lousy audio performance of LogicPro, but it might be worth a shot. I think you're right, Sascha. Last night I changed the setting to "slow" and had no glitches after that. This stinks, of course, because it places severe limitations on how many instruments can be loaded. But if Logic Pro's streaming is faulty, it may be the only workaround for now. Is anybody here using large instruments from SATA or FW drives with the "fast" settings without problems?
