As Don mentioned below, the waves are for use in the SF - there is pitch 
correction in the zones. They are going to be out of tune by themselves.

Actually, this is a good idea for Translator - extraction of waves but 
corrected for values in zones, by way of tuning information or hard pitch 
correction in the sample data. Will do that after the Easter project... (hi 
Julie and Sean...)

So - EXS just doesn't convert the pitch data correctly. Use your friendly 
neighborhood third-party sample convertor.

I'm not aware of release samples being in SF's, as they don't support 
release triggers.
