I bought the SI brass and sax soundfonts and couldn't
get them to work at all with EXS24. they were just
waayyy out of tune. I extracted the bare waves out of
the soundfonts with extreme sample converter- they
were still way out of tune !!! (????)

I was going to open the soundfonts in Vienna and try
to apply the same settings to EXS manually. I ended
up just using them in NN-XT. I had to adjust the
envelopes slightly but otherwise they worked fine in
reason.

I'm still scratching my head over why the bare waves
were out of tune in logic. It's been a while, but i'm
sure i assigned the correct root note.

Pretty weird indeed.
I suspect some sample rate issues - could it be that they're 48kHz samples?

These are two different problems. The SI soundfont issue is something I've
run into myself, with regard to the orchestral brass. I had to go into the
EXS instrument and retune every note. Unfortunately, there is pitch
correction information in the soundfonts that is not converted properly by
EXS24. The samples themselves are way out of tune, and all to different
degrees. This is especially bad because in some of the instruments, more
than one sample is played for each key.

The release sample problem is something else entirely.

As Don mentioned below, the waves are for use in the SF - there is pitch
correction in the zones. They are going to be out of tune by themselves.

Actually, this is a good idea for Translator - extraction of waves but
corrected for values in zones, by way of tuning information or hard pitch
correction in the sample data. Will do that after the Easter project... (hi
Julie and Sean...)

So - EXS just doesn't convert the pitch data correctly. Use your friendly
neighborhood third-party sample convertor.

I'm not aware of release samples being in SF's, as they don't support
release triggers.
