Hi folks! Could any one help me find a good kalimba sample-set? Or any similar instrument [kalimba being the Kenyan name] also known as agidigbo, malimba, sanza, mbira, karimba, ikembe, likembe, or finger harp and thumb-piano in Western countries... I'd also be interested by a balafon sample-set (the balafon is an African xylophone). I already use some commercial products, like the world jam pack from Apple, but I'm looking for more genuine (meaning, not westernized) instruments. I guess packages like MOTU Ethno must have kalimbas and balafons available, but I'm not ready to fork out the big bucks without even knowing how they sound! Note: of course, I tried a few soundfonts and was disappointed by the lack of velocities available: a good kalimba should have at least 3 velocity layers to render the different plucking strengths or technics, and provide a specific layer for the characteristic buzzing effects produced by wrapped tongues. If you got any good sample-sets of these instruments, please let me know, even if it's a commercial package! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For more information, see the mbira or kalimba pages: http://tinyurl.com/o3hop http://tinyurl.com/ownkq -- Jym Feat -- Paris FR 75018
