I have a folder of iTunes Aiff files that I want to access and edit/play within EXS24. Is this doable? If so, can anyone tell me how to do it, where to place the folder of audio files, if the iTune Aiff files will work as is or need to be converted, etc.... PS: Dual PowerMac G4 4GB RAM, running Logic Pro 7 Thank you Ernest James

You don't have to move anything: the EXS samplers you'll build will directly reference the samples wherever they sit.

That's where you find the .exs instruments, not the samples. You have to build and instrument first. Click EDIT, and the editor will open. Create a new Instrument, then and new Zone. In the blank box, click it and a Open dialog will appear. Choose your sample on that, then save the instrument. One thing though - AIFF files may be compressed or non-compressed. Many iTunes AIFF files, if ACC, are compressed and I'm not sure EXS will like those. Garth Hjelte Sampler User

Hi folks! Could any one help me find a good kalimba sample-set? Or any similar instrument [kalimba being the Kenyan name] also known as agidigbo, malimba, sanza, mbira, karimba, ikembe, likembe, or finger harp and thumb-piano in Western countries... I'd also be interested by a balafon sample-set (the balafon is an African xylophone). I already use some commercial products, like the world jam pack from Apple, but I'm looking for more genuine (meaning, not westernized) instruments. I guess packages like MOTU Ethno must have kalimbas and balafons available, but I'm not ready to fork out the big bucks without even knowing how they sound! Note: of course, I tried a few soundfonts and was disappointed by the lack of velocities available: a good kalimba should have at least 3 velocity layers to render the different plucking strengths or technics, and provide a specific layer for the characteristic buzzing effects produced by wrapped tongues. If you got any good sample-sets of these instruments, please let me know, even if it's a commercial package! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For more information, see the mbira or kalimba pages: http://tinyurl.com/o3hop http://tinyurl.com/ownkq -- Jym Feat -- Paris FR 75018

The old Heart Of Africa and Heart Of Asia discs have some very useable sounds. They are from the 32 meg sampler generation, so there isn't an abundance of multi velocity layers. But they do have the buzzing and other articulations mapped out in sample sets. I think it's Heart Of Africa vol. 1 that has what you are looking for. -------- Eli Krantzberg http://www.nightshiftorchestra.com Almat Productions

Unfortunately, at $299, this single Akai volume isn't cheaper than the Ethno package... and still no way to find out wether the instruments are playable! That's a lot of money for a handful of kalimbas! ~~~~~~~~~~~ Moreover, I've read somewhere that Apple had borrowed a lot of this material for their own world jam pack. But thanks for that suggestion, anyway.
