What happened is that an .exs file stores the bitrate, sample data offset, sample length, channels, and byte order of the sample it's referencing. If the .exs file doesn't get updated after you edit it's source samples, those pieces of information can be wrong. Usually doing this (24->16) means that you'll get white noise or buzziness in the samples, since the .exs file will play the sample at 24-bits even though it's 16-bits. Garth Hjelte Sampler User
