I don't have extensive experience with CDXtract. I have been trying it out
at a friend's place (to decide between it and Translator). I have not
noticed a drop in volume in the loop portion of the samples myself. It
could be the way the looping was achieved. Sometimes with crossfade looping
you can get this if it is not done properly.

One thing that I have noticed with many Akai converted samples is a "click"
at the beginning of the sample. I don't know if this is the loud noise you
describe or not. I imagine that the very first sample is not on a
zero-crossing and that causes the click. To get around it, I go into each
zone in the exs-24 editor and set the sample start to 1 or 2. THat
typically makes the click disappear.

BTW, I just ordered Translator. It seems to do more of what I need. I
actually have not tested it out much other than the downloadable demo. I
don't know if it is better than CDXtract or not in converting to exs-24
format as the demo version wouldn't let me test this out. I went by some
users which I had contacted as well as the formats that it translates
according to the website.

HTH,
Fernando
