Re: [exs] making an exact copy

2001-12-02 by Sascha Franck

Of course I know that copying the EXS CD isn't exactly legal (at least from
what the manual says) but I think that by german law you are allowed to have
one security copy - and that's exactly what I've been doing because my
original CD allready doesn't look too pretty anymore, there's allready quite
some scratches on it and I don't want to take the risk of one day finding
myself with a non-working CD, having to wait for a new one, eventually not
being able to use the EXS (which in the meantime became my master sound
modul) for a few days.

However, I don't know about the legal situation when it comes to using the
EXS on two different machines, but in this case we should compare it to some
hardware synth module. I mean, whenever you do some production at your place
and it's afterwards required to continue working in another studio but at
the same time you want to reproduce a certain sound that you used, you'd
take your hardware module with you, wouldn't you? So I think there should be
no problem with the EXS being installed temporarily on another machine -
otherwise it simply wouldn't cope up with hardware equivalents in terms of
practical usefulness.
Of course you're still not allowed to use the EXS on two different machines
simultaneously.

Sascha
