RE: [exs] GIGA support?

Giga -> EXS 24

If you have GigaStudio and there is a patch you like it is pretty simple to
make it into an EXS 24 instrument these days.

Open the gig file in Giga's instrument editor.
Select all the samples, right click and choose "Export samples"
Do this into a directory you have made on your samples drive -- the
selector doesn't let you create one.
The samples will have note names and loops printed to them.

Open EXS24 editor -- make a new instrument, choose Load multiple samples
and select the samples and then pick the "Auto map" option and the samples
will be built into an instrument.

If there are velocity layers, it is best to import the files of each
velocity layer in separate steps so that each becomes a group and you can
then choose velocity switching levels in the group properties.

If the samples have pitch corrections in Giga they will not be written to
the files so you may need to do some tuning of Rhodes samples etc -- I do
it in Cool Edit -- just analyse the pitch of a sample and correct it in the
affected zone.

This all takes a few minutes so it may be impractical for huge collections
of sounds but it is certainly handy for a few favorite patches.

I have also used this method to fix some SF2s that EXS24 botched as well
since Giga converts SF2s more reliably.

Murray
