>Can you be a little more descriptive of how you index a drive in sherlock?

I don't think anyone answered this yet.
Open Sherlock 2
Go to <File> menu and choose <Index Volumes...>
Select the volume you wish to index. For multiple selection, use <shift> click.

If you have never indexed, select <create index> or <update index> if you have.

Boil the kettle, make tea, watch TV and have a rest......it'll take some time!
Or, as someone already suggested, use the schedule feature for while 
you're asleep.
