Because I don't save it in my email client software format (I use Netscape
Communicator). I save them as either text clippings or Simpletext documents.
I've used different email programs over the years and this way seems to be
safest for future retrieval (IMO)

I am too and also did the same. But now that I've tried it, it doesn't seem to
cost any system performance. I figure I'll update the indexing manually when I
feel like it, rather than schedule it for automatic updates. This way I can
keep the scheduler extension disabled.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
