If you start using one of the other ones, it's improve your speed. 2) You have to convert the waves sooner or later. The best time to do so is when you are converting the waves (might as well). 3) The optimum method would be to only read, convert, and write them only once. I can't speak for CDX, but Translator does all three operations only once per sample. To answer your question directly, no. The big reason is WHY? To speak for Translator, it'll still read the samples of the Akai disk, but won't write them if it sees the identical sample already where it'd put one. So any time advantage is gone.
