Not much, apart from the VSM thing (which is workin pretty nice over here, just that I don't have much use for it). The major drawbacks still are there - but I guess Clemens (Homburg, EXS programmer) was busy doing a lot of other things regarding Logic's audio engine. I still hope for a major EXS update more or less soon. > Are there any changes in the way that disks are imported? Not that I know of. But well, I don't own many AKAI disks either, so I can't tell. > How are people finding the usage of REX file imports into the EXS? Actually, it's nothing one couldn't have done before, using ReCycle's SF2+MIDI export, but it's pretty much more comfortable now. In the meantime I got like around 200 EXS'ed "general purpose" loops that I allready used a lot (and, best of all, my copy of ReCycle just arrived an hour ago, so now I will have quite some more loops pretty soon). Here's a little tip about file organisation (at least this works very well for me): I do have three identical folder structures on my HD. 1) The original folders with the REX files in them 2) A subfolder of Logic's "Sampler Instruments" directory, just containing the same subfolders as in 1). 3) A subfolder of my "EXS samples" directory, again containing the same subfolders. Setting it up like this and maintaining the structure is quite some work as I allways have to edit all patches I imported to the EXS and do a "move audiofiles", but I'm sure it will pay off in the end as I will never have to worry about where things are. And well, I really don't care about the "wasted" space having each file somewhat twice. Now, what I do when selecting a loop is the following: - Open the EXS instance I want to use. - Select an audiotrack and open the "import audio" box (usually using Shift+Pen in the arrange). This allows previewing recycled loops in the current's song tempo. - When "stumbling" over a loop I like, I just select the same loop in the EXS. Don't know what it's like on Macs, but on Windows you can do that without closing the "import audio" dialog box, so I can just continue searching my REX library while the loop I like the most is allready selected in the EXS. When being done I just press "Cancel" in the audio import box and extract the appropriate MIDI sequence from the EXS. As said, until now this approach has worked pretty great for me. Allright, on to recycling quite some more loops, finally in my own environment :-) Cheers, Sascha > Any thoughts..... > > > Regards > > David Tobin > > Wow and Flutter ltd > > Music for Film/TV production, General Music Technology > Arranging, Multimedia production, Music Tech teaching, > Artist recordings etc. > > > > To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to: > exs-users-unsubscribe@egroups.com > > > > Your use of Yahoo!
