MIDI Controller Routing

2002-03-04 by HELP@MusicBootCamp.com

Ever since I dumped OMS in lieu of Unitor8 with direct Logic support, I have
not able to disable the knobs of my SuperNova (for example) from sending
messages both to Logic as well as back to itself. This has caused me many
problems and inconveniences. As a result, I leave the controller inputs to
my outboard synths unplugged unless I absolutely require them to be attached
for a specific purpose. What I would like to know (off-topic I know, but I
trust the users of this list), but how do I establish logical routing
without sending unwanted messages straight back into the SuperNova
automatically. In other words, I want to twist a knob on the SuperNova and
have it send pure MIDI messages to Logic and not additionally back to
itself. So if the filter cutoff knob is sending on a Nova-defined control
number to the EXS, that's all it does when I twist the knob.

I hope this makes sense. Do you think this is something on my hardware
synths I should alter or something in the Unitor8 control panel? My original
thinking was to allow MIDI messages to travel to all other "out" ports
except the SuperNova from within in the Unitor8 MIDI routing graph editor.
But my changes have no effect or I'm doing it incorrectly. As I recall, this
was a piece of cake in OMS. I'd uncheck the box that routed the SuperNova to
itself, save and that was it. I'm convinced that it's not a SuperNova
because it happens only when the MIDI return to the SuperNova is plugged in
(As I said, this is true of any synth. I'm using the SuperNova as a primary
example). The ill effect is when I do some menu navigation or knob twisting,
crazy messages come back to the SuperNova and screw up navigation making it
impossible to work and to edit. If this clicks with anybody, let me know. If
not, please do not respond. I am positive I haven't described this issue
with complete accuracy, and therefore I would only expect someone who has
experienced this very same problem to fill in the blanks or correct any
inappropriate assertions. Thanks, in advance, to any users who might have
some expertise with this for their assistance. If you feel this is heavily
off topic, feel free to e-mail me directly rather than posting to the list.

Thank you. -Jer
