You might consider Spectrasonics "Atmospheres." Soft again, but probably
very appropriate for your needs. I use my outboard Supernova for a lot of
sounds like that. Waldorf outboard synths have nice and soft stuff, but both
include some pretty stalwart and strong lead synths despite their affinity
for the less abrasive. I am a Mac user and use SounDiver to generate random
patches. The Supernova responds very well to this, and many "alien" sounds
are easily, randomly generated. I think the ES2 has a random patch generator
as well built into the interface (I hope I'm not getting my soft synths
confused, but that's what I remember). -Jer
