What tune do you want to cover -- "A wishin' and a hopin' and a huntin' and
a peckin'"?

Gee -- sixties bass ... hmm. 

A lot of soundfonts are pretty good -- Hammersound had some decent ones.
Sascha Frank has an one that he made on his site - more modern sounding
perhaps.  You can use the filter and EQ to get the degree of brightness/
cut in the mix that you want. Compression has a whole lot to do with how
the bass sits in the mix too.

I have a stack of downloaded electric bass samples built into EXS
instruments but more often than not I use my own samples -- I sampled every
note on my fretless bass (EMG pickups and tone board) at 24 bit with no
loops and it sounds good in my tunes but not "sixties" I would say -- more
modern ie with a more hifi sort of sound.
