sample library

I just bought an new exs24 and installed it, only to find 8 or 9 free
sounds in the sample library. I don't know why but I was under the
impression that it came with a lot more...

Is this all you get?

Also, is there anywhere online where you download free sounds? General
Midi sounds for the exs24?

No if you register the EXS24 you get sent a disc of factory sounds - about
another 50 or so.

EXS24 can convert soundfonts so the big sound font sites like Hammersound
etc have huge collections.

Here are a few links to sites with downloadable EXS24 instruments to get
you started -- the last few are just for samples you can build your own
instruments with.

Murray McDowall did that hunt and peck thing, resulting in the following:

I need to find a good '60's style electric bass. One of those tones that do
not call attention to themselves but is somehow fatter and louder than a
sine wave. Anybody know if such a sound resides amongst these free ones (I
do not have DSL so I do not want to download a bunch of candidates that
don't cut it for my purpose)?

TIA,

Bob

What tune do you want to cover -- "A wishin' and a hopin' and a huntin' and
a peckin'"?

Gee -- sixties bass ... hmm.

A lot of soundfonts are pretty good -- Hammersound had some decent ones.
Sascha Frank has an one that he made on his site - more modern sounding
perhaps. You can use the filter and EQ to get the degree of brightness/
cut in the mix that you want. Compression has a whole lot to do with how
the bass sits in the mix too.

I have a stack of downloaded electric bass samples built into EXS
instruments but more often than not I use my own samples -- I sampled every
note on my fretless bass (EMG pickups and tone board) at 24 bit with no
loops and it sounds good in my tunes but not "sixties" I would say -- more
modern ie with a more hifi sort of sound.

Regards,
Murray

As you might imagine the resulting instrument is huge.

Personally, I think the EXS24 stock sounds suck. These are good starting
places. I have built most of my own drum kits from copyright-free download
sample sites. Actually, the EXS24 is so fast at building drum kits, it's the
reason I bought the thing to begin with.

You can get free strings from me at http://MusicBootCamp.com/exs24.shtml
and more raw samples at http://MusicBootCamp.com/audio_sample_library.shtml
