Oh yes, sure.  For me a file or a folder is equivalent to "the thing 
or an alias to it".  Actually quite a few of the standard folders in 
my Logic folder are aliasses...

I can't remember the last time I encountered a situation in which an 
alias wouldn't do the same job as the actual thing...
