Last time I tried with Stuffit Version 6.5.1 it couldn't open gzip 
files. It's a bug that was acknowledged by Aladdin (see below).

There is an old utility called MacGzip which works - not very 
comfortable, however. (E.g. I can't get it to open files 
automatically.)

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
