This sort of thing can happen when the files specified in the instrument definition do not have the same suffix/type or whatever as the actual audio files sitting on the hard drive. This happens for PC users with some instruments built by Mac users. If you can go into the Instrument editor and pick a zone and open the corresponding audio file in the sample editor and it can be played back from there then the files are OK. Othewise it could be some parameter in the instrument definition (transpose, start point, volume -- any of these can make an instrument behave unexpectedly -- eg your drumset is octaves up the keyboard from where you expect it) An unlikely possibility is a corrupt instrument definition.
