What happens if you take out all the exs-instruments from the Sampler 
Instruments folder and only leave these new ones in?

The instrument menu is limited to 100 entries or so, I think -- that 
might also be a problem.  Make submenus if that indeed is the 
problem.  Or: do all instrument files end in .exs?  On a mac this 
shouldn't matter, but on a PC it will (I suppose).

Maybe a block-size issue?  On my HD for example, the smallest file 
takes up 4kb of space, even if the file is just one byte long.  So a 
lot of small samples can take up quite a lot of diskspace even though 
the actual byte-count is low.
