EXS24 will be streaming samples from the drive as of Logic Platinum version 4.7 which is to be released mid-February. There is a new control panel in Logic dedicated to the disk streaming features. This will allow somewhat Gigasampler performance in that you can now create huge files that need not be loaded into RAM. However, I am skeptical as to whether or not third party publishers will be creating libraries in this manner as they have for Gigasampler. Another much awaited feature in Platinum 4.7 is the file hierarchy. This will allow you to place your samples into folders which will appear categorized in EXS24. No more long shopping list of sounds. Now everything can be organized and manageable. I believe Emagic has also applied this file hierarchy to the plug-ins in the audio mixer. Logic 4.7 will also allow for 24 audio instruments instead of the original 16. Bear in mind however that this does involve more processor usage. EXS24 will in mid-February also support TDM, SoundFont, and SampleCell I and II formats. As of version 4.6.3 of Logic, EXS24 and ES1 both have a new button on the editor that once pressed, displays several key parameters only available if the panel was switched to the controls display. Also be on the look out for Emagic's new EVP88, a 88 note polyphonic vintage piano virtual instrument and a hardware tactile surface controller to be developed in partnership with Mackie. All news is from the Emagic press release at the NAMM show. Kaveh Cohen Composer.
