Can you rephrase your question? Not sure what you're asking.

Say the whole question. What about it? Are you asking if it does that? Or are you saying you want it to (behave more like Gigasampler)? I don't know what you want to know? If you are asking whether it currently does or not, I'm not sure. I had thought that it loads all samples in the song directly into RAM. But I don't think so, since I've mixed tracks with well over 20 or 30 megs of audio tracks running easily with 50MB of RAM allocated to Logic. To me that suggests that it does not rely on RAM to push the amount audio (and assumedly EXS samples). To me, RAM affects number of audio tracks, ASIO and other DSP, while hard disk performance affects audio quantity (total bandwidth of audio available to logic before it hits the mixer). Maybe I'm out of my league here, but those are my thoughts. Hope this helps. Hey Jer, The EXS is loading the samples into ram. But not the ram allocated to logic. It's using the excess ram on your computer to load the samples. If you look at the "about this computer" (you know in the apple menu) you'll find logic is running in much more than you have allocated to it. In my case I had about 40 meg allocated to Logic but it was running in 253 meg...big samples. By the way the emagic site did mention something about real time HD addressing in 4.7. take a look. Lots of new stuff for EXS regards julie

EXS24 will be streaming samples from the drive as of Logic Platinum version 4.7 which is to be released mid-February. There is a new control panel in Logic dedicated to the disk streaming features. This will allow somewhat Gigasampler performance in that you can now create huge files that need not be loaded into RAM. However, I am skeptical as to whether or not third party publishers will be creating libraries in this manner as they have for Gigasampler. Another much awaited feature in Platinum 4.7 is the file hierarchy. This will allow you to place your samples into folders which will appear categorized in EXS24. No more long shopping list of sounds. Now everything can be organized and manageable. I believe Emagic has also applied this file hierarchy to the plug-ins in the audio mixer. Logic 4.7 will also allow for 24 audio instruments instead of the original 16. Bear in mind however that this does involve more processor usage. EXS24 will in mid-February also support TDM, SoundFont, and SampleCell I and II formats. As of version 4.6.3 of Logic, EXS24 and ES1 both have a new button on the editor that once pressed, displays several key parameters only available if the panel was switched to the controls display. Also be on the look out for Emagic's new EVP88, a 88 note polyphonic vintage piano virtual instrument and a hardware tactile surface controller to be developed in partnership with Mackie. All news is from the Emagic press release at the NAMM show. Kaveh Cohen Composer.

I'm not sure if this is only for Mac or TDM. Anyway it's coming soon and you won't have to worry about RAM limitations. You can read about it on the Emagic site under NAMM news. Also EXS will translate SampleCell both platforms........thank you oh great ones! Phil Buckle. Phil Buckle.

Thanks, Julie. What you're saying fits with my initial understanding that the EXS loads samples into RAM, but I hadn't realized that it does it outside of the allocated RAM. I know one of the Logic reps, and I'm surprised she never mentioned this to me. Now I know why she suggested setting the program RAM so low. I guess having the 384MB of RAM has helped more than I realized. Thanks again for the explanation ------------------------- Apple PowerBook G3 400Mhz Logic Audio Platinum 4.6.1 384 MB of Ram Digigram VX Pocket sound card ------------------------- Jer Olsen, President Global Express Media LLC "The Mecca for Musicians" Get low prices on professional CD/Cass duplication with our new "Quick Quote" calculator: http://MusicProTools.com/duplication.shtml And don't forget all the other FREE resources we offer professional musicians at http://MusicProTools.com/
