Re: [exs] Garrison Strings GIGA vs Akai

2002-07-29 by Ned Bouhalassa

Hello eartoyz,

You must mean Garritan Strings, right? I have the AKAI version. They're
really beautiful, useful samples. The only problem is that the smaller AKAI
version doesn't have p (soft) or f (loud) programs, only mp (medium soft)
and mf (medium loud), so you don't have the range you need to do subtle
work (good enough for pop, not for film soundtracks). As well, you don't
get as many samples in a given program (every 3 keys instead of every key -
that can be trouble when you play a chord with detache samples), and not as
many articulations (no co legno, for eg). What you do get is a very
professional-sounding, everyday-use string orchestra library. You can
always move up to the full version later (when EXS reads GIGA, for eg). I
give it two thumbs up.

As for runs, lines and melodies, I can think of Orchestral Colours and
Scoring Tools. amongst others. But you should try them out before buying
them, if possible.

Ned
