Re: [exs] Garrison Strings GIGA vs Akai

2002-07-29 by Paul Nicholls

Hello eartoyz,

I just bought (3 days ago) GigaStudio and the Garritan Strings. I decided to
go for the full meal deal after talking to Gary Garritan. The Giga Library
so huge that will take a long time to learn. Maestro Tools is only available
with the Giga version and without Maestro Tools a true string legato is not
possible. This factor alone is what convinced me and I can tell you in a
while what I think since I am still in the process of setting up and
learning and getting around in Windows 2000. I think it is very wise to go
with the big version if you are very much into string music and want to get
the best possible results in any type of music at almost any tempo. If you
have a more limited need for more static accompaniments that mostly feature
the strings as 'pads' then I would say that the Akai version would likely do
you just fine.

I am an ex-cello player so I have to say that I have never seen choices in
string samples like the choices I have with the Garritan set. It makes the
most attempt to get at what string playing could be all about. The Kirk
Hunter sounds good in certain situations but is quite limited compared to
the Garritan library.

Regards

Paul
