It's basically the same as editing midi. reording onto an EXS tracks creates a
midi sequence with the same sort of data as traditional midi tracks. You can
use all the conventional midi editors (matrix, score, event list, etc) to edit
the material. You can quantize, loop, gate, etc via the sequence parameter box
as with regular midi. You can cut, copy, paste, etc in all the conventional
ways. The only signifigant way that soft synth/sampler data differs from mdi
data is that some of the environment routing possiblities that exist for
external midi gear are somewhat limited with virtual instruments.

By "midi squares" do you mean a matrix editor view? If so, you can view soft
instrument midi data in all the same ways. Just open up a linked matrix window
and that should do it.

You're making it harder than it really is. Just think of it as editing midi in
all the ways you are already used to.

Not at all. Working with soft instruments is a new "model" to grasp. But in
many ways, it's not as different as you think.
