Yes -- just open the little menu and uncheck the box. It is also tunable --
different drive speed settings let you vary how much of the samples are stored
in RAM (all these streaming programs store the front end of the sample in RAM
as a buffer and then spool in the rest) / how much of a load is put on your
drives.  

If you leave it switched off and then try to open a tune with a couple of gigs
of instruments in it you machine will have fun trying to load them into RAM.
You can't intervene in a songs load cycle AFAIK to cancel out of this futile
process - that's with LAW anyway. That's why setting this preference on a
per-song basis would be good.
